In 2001 a group of businesses created the Institución Futuro. During these years the institution has worked to define the bases of the identity of the institution, guarantee its viability, gain the social support necessary, establish a consistent program of research, consolidate its publications, to fix a regular and attractive plan of activities, training a team capable to work with a think tanks requirements and finally to communicate with the public authorities and the citizens our proposals for improvement of the society. Although we believe that we are achieving most of our goals, we will not become complacent. The board of trustees is conscious that the institution still has a long way to go to consolidate the commitments made to Navarra.
Institución Futuro plays a pioneering role In Navarra and Spain. The role of think tanks in civil society as often very unknown, not only between los citizens but also the political, economic and social leaders of a nation. In Spain there are about thirty organization which, like the Institución Futuro intend to open the public space in Spain to generate participative debate about general issues, from the independence and rigor intellectual. And if we think about regional think tanks like the Institución Futuro, the number is even less. And therefore during these nine years we have served a pedagogic function by promoting not only our own ideas and activities without the features of the identity and the dynamic of the work of a think tank.
Together with the transmission of this message we have spoken about:
The viability and the social support of the project will be consolidated in the long term when civil society accepts fully the role of the think tank. With regards to this, the slow and constant incorporation of new members into the entity is making sure this guarantees its viability.
The research is orientated at basic themes established by the council of governance that may be summarized in the idea of promoting the competitiveness and sustainability of Navarra, not only in economically but socially also. The next pages detail the lines and projects of investigation. It would be suitable to mention that we have participated in public notices of help with two objectives: to seek external financing for our projects and to establish causes of formal cooperation with the Public Administration.
Our publications serve to provide knowledge about the political, economic and social ideas and tenancies that we detect in the world as points of reference for the media and other think tanks. Through these publications we want to generate in our audience an interest in the future and encourage them to voluntarily prepare for the changes that will ensue. The other clear function of the magazine we edit Tendencias de Futuro has been to serve as an introduction to our think tank to directors of businesses and public enterprises who are interested in our proposals.
With respect to activities of formation and debate, these serve to increase the participation of the members in the project of Institución Futuro. These have served to generate a wider public audience. We have hosted a long list of experts that have lead seminars and conferences which has created new lines of work and strengthened links with civil society.
Although the impact of the think tank is measured in the medium and long term, we can observe that the ideas of Institución Futuro are permeating public administration and the civil society. Proof of this is the coverage in the media coverage in the media of our research and activities and the public response to our work.
