Welcome to the webpage for Institución Futuro where you will find a virtual guide to the ideology and work of our organization.  Throughout the years we have grown notably in our number of investigations and activities, during which time the institution has gained greater public notoriety to the point where little by little we have become one of the principal participants in the civil society of Navarra.  The tangible presence of Institución Futuro is evidence that the citizens of our community want to participate more actively in the development of public policy.

It is evident that Navarra needs new ideas to progress. Although we have enjoyed a favorable economic situation in the past few years, the report España 2020 published by the Institución Futuro in 2005 alerted us to the undesirable scenarios within which we may find ourselves if we are unable to develop new means of prosperity. We have the challenge of transforming our economic model to emulate a system that would be more competitive against the conditions imposed by the global economy. It reduces the value of industry and we must enhance the services sector. We must invest more resources, materials and intellectuals to launch new sectors as vehicles of innovation, technology and knowledge. In these weeks we have witnessed the expected negotiations in the Volkswagen plant in Navarra. Before this conflict and others of its type that are likely to follow, beyond concern we must see new opportunities to engage in issues of future concern.

From this institutional point of view, in our investigations regarding the public sector, we have found the need to rethink the welfare state. In coherence with the principle functions of the institution, we have argued that the public has to live in a more balanced way with the private sector, which often proves to be more effective in providing basic services to citizens. A good example affirming this is health. Experts admit that a better compromise is necessary to preserve the benefits of the system. We have also questioned the unstoppable tendency of public administrations to increase their bureaucracy in legislative matters and in terms of processes that any citizen has to follow in any action. We are convinced that in public affairs it is preferable to reduce the barriers and obstacles to free actions of citizens.

In this letter I want to emphasize also that the small nucleus of businesses and citizens that commenced this project have been compensated for their efforts by the entrance of new partners and collaborative entities. As announced in due course, in the year 2005 we diversified the categories of partners and possible forms of cooperation with the Institución Futuro. Thanks to this our social network has grown and with this the influence of our ideas are able to have on the future of Navarra.
